Democracy Dies Without a Free Press.

Welcome to Resistance Media

There are well over one billion websites in the world today, with roughly two hundred million currently active.

The obvious question is: why does the world need one more?

Resistance Media (RM) was created for two reasons:

1) For many, the amount of information coming at us every day has become overwhelming and unmanageable. At the same time it is more important than ever that we have access to critical and accurate information to navigate the growing crisis we see all around us.

There is, however, a more serious issue than the sheer volume of information.

While disinformation from the well funded and expansive MAGA media eco-system is far-reaching, the capitulation and increasingly outright collaboration of the largest corporate media entities is extending the authoritarian narrative deeper into the mainstream.

Independent journalism has always been the only effective means to counter the impact of this toxic information flow and the good news is that there has never been a larger or more vibrant set of oppositional voices doing important work.

Unfortunately, in the attention economy, too many of these voices are losing.

Resistance Media provides a curated digest, a place where you can find links to trusted and high quality reporting.

We seek to earn a place in your personal reading diet. As a resistance newsstand. As a resistance library of sorts.

2) We are, in the words of George Clinton and Funkadelic, “standing on the verge of getting it on.”

That is, we are witnessing the very early skirmishes of an information war that is going to transform human communication as we know it. The enemies of democracy want to reduce us to doomscrolling. They are flooding the information zone with disinformation and deepfakes.

Artificial Intelligence may very well turn out to be a catalyst for some extraordinary breakthroughs in addressing some of society’s most intractable problems.

It may also hasten the death of journalism and the end of American democracy.

Carole Cadwalladr’s reporting has described in chilling detail the peril of the emerging “techno-authoritarian surveillance state,” powered by AI. “The world hasn’t seen this before,” she told Democracy Now, “in which you have state power with this enormous surveillance engine machine, which is Silicon Valley. And it’s the coming together of these two things which I think is a totally terrifying new reality,”

Thom Hartmann in The Hartmann Report has sketched out the potential danger as the technology grows in power and scale:

“AI can now generate millions of personalized political messages in seconds, each calibrated to manipulate a voter’s specific fears or biases. It can create entire fake news outlets, populate them with AI-generated journalists, and flood your social feed with content that looks real, sounds real, and feels familiar, all without a single human behind it.

“In the next cycle, we may see entire election campaigns waged by AI bots masquerading as voters, influencers, and even public officials.

“The goal often isn’t just to win; it’s to delegitimize the democratic process itself. Because once trust is broken—once people believe that “both sides lie” or that “you can’t believe anything anymore”—then strongmen step into the void with promises of order, purity, and salvation.”

Resistance Media is committed to bringing you journalism that you can trust. Written by human beings. Deepfake and bot free. Weaponized with facts. Journalism that offers analysis and resources that forcefully address our current national emergency.

The free flow of information will be vital to the success of an American resistance movement capable of defending human rights and restoring democracy. America is facing a sophisticated and multifaceted authoritarian threat that has thrust the country into an existential crisis. Freedom of the Press and the First Amendment are on the front line of the struggle ahead.

We are an informal group of private citizens with deep media and technology backgrounds who are concerned about the threat of a rising American fascist movement. This web site promotes news and analysis and provides pro-democracy media and civil society resources to safeguard their staff, board and mission to ensure operational continuity.

Beyond coverage of threats to a free press, we provide a broader sweep of stories to help you better understand the crosscurrents of our quickly evolving situation.

We have only one request: please share this website with anyone you think may find the information here of value.
